Legacy
A leading Japanese jazz trumpeter active since the 1960s. Through international activity and numerous collaborations he contributed to the globalization of Japanese jazz. He was awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon (2004) and the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Small Rosette (2019).

- His father, Hino Bin, was a tap dancer and trumpet player.
- His brother is jazz drummer Motohiko Hino. His eldest son Mas Hino is a guitar & bass luthier; his second son Kenji Hino is a bassist.
- In 1989 he became the first Japanese musician to sign an exclusive contract with Blue Note Records.
- He performed the pre-race fanfare at the 41st Arima Kinen (1996).
