Description
The Onitsura Seishun Haiku Award was established in 2004 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Kakimori Bunko (now Itami City Museum), honoring the Edo-period poet Uejima Onitsura (1661-1738), celebrated as 'the Basho of the West.' The award discovers and nurtures emerging haiku poets under 30 by inviting submissions of 30-poem sequences. Prizes include the Grand Prix, Excellence Award, and Fighting Spirit Award. The most recent edition was the 20th (2023); as of 2026, the museum has announced no plans for further recruitment.
