Kiss Kiss
A short story in which a young traveler, Billy, is drawn into a strange boarding house by its unusually low price. His conversation with the apparently kind landlady grows gradually unsettling, revealing the quiet terror hidden beneath everyday politeness.
Work Information
Behind the landlady's kind smile, the traveler is enclosed by an unease from which there may be no escape.
The Japanese title refers to Roald Dahl's short story The Landlady. First published in 1959, it was collected in Kiss Kiss in 1960. It is a strong example of Dahl's cold humor and cruel aftertaste in his adult short fiction.
Review Summaries
-
The story is highly regarded for the craft with which it builds fear through understated conversation. By avoiding explicit explanation, it leaves readers with a powerful sense of what may be coming.

In Kiss Kiss you will find eleven devious, shocking stories from the master of the unpredictable, Roald Dahl. What could go wrong when a wife pawns the mink coat that her lover gave her as a parting gift? What happens when a priceless piece of furniture is the subject of a deceitful bargain? Can a wronged woman take revenge on her dead husband? In these dark, disturbing stories Roald Dahl explores the sinister side of human nature: the cunning, sly, selfish part of each of us that leads us into the territory of the unexpected and unsettling. Stylish, macabre and haunting, these tales will leave you with a delicious feeling of unease. 'Roald Dahl is one of the few writers I know whose work can accurately be described as addictive' Irish Times Roald Dahl, the brilliant and worldwide acclaimed author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, and many more classics for children, also wrote scores of short stories for adults. These delightfully disturbing tales have often been filmed and were most recently the inspiration for the West End play, Roald Dahl's Twisted Tales by Jeremy Dyson.

Buon prodotto

sublime
I can't believe how good this guy is. The set up in his stories surpasses the endings, which are creepy and unnerving. One of the great writers. I looked forward to picking up the book every time. Some of my favorite short stories, right up their with Arthur Conrad Doyle, L. Ron Hubbard and Robert Block.

Excellent!

Empfehlenswert
Habe ich empfohlen bekommen. Dahl ist super. Will meinen Wortschatz aufbessern. Die Stories sind für mich B2 - C1 gut verständlich.
