Great Read

Out of Season is one of the best character driven mysteries that I have ever read. Havill takes the utmost care to develop even minor characters. This, along with the scenic descriptions give this book incredible depth. This is simply one of the best mysteries that I have ever read.
A good mystery

Out of Season is a good, solid mystery in the usual self-deprecating Gastner style. The plot starts immediately with the death of the sheriff, and Gastner's appointment to fill the top spot while investigating what quickly turns out to be a murder instead of an accidental death. As with the other Posadas County stories, Havill portrays his character in a way that allows us to see and know Gastner personally. He maintains the mystery to the very end.
Love This Series

I loved Tony Hillerman and I find this series enjoyable in much the same way. I also like that the main character is a seasoned older detective.
Still enjoy riding along with Bill Gastner.

These stories about Posadas County law enforcement all seem to run togeather. Once you meet a character they stay with you until they are dead or gone. I like that. When this writer brings in an old character from a previous story I already know that person, infact I have even form a picture in my mind. This makes you feel like part of the story. Love the writing, local and all the different personalities we come across in these books. Very believable and entertaining.
Another great Bill Gastner mystery.

Another great read! I am really enjoyed working my way through his series. Bill Gastner is an interesting fella. Being a Senior it's nice to relate to an aging man dealing with his infirmaties and getting the job done. The ending on this one was slightly implausible but such things have actually happened that way. The story as usual has all kinds of twists and turns and it all worked together well.
