New York Times bestselling author Joseph Finder delivers an exhilarating and timely thriller exploring how even the most powerful among us can be brought down by a carefully crafted lie and how the secrets we keep can never truly stay buried. The chief justice of the Supreme Court is about to be defamed, his career destroyed, by a powerful gossip website that specializes in dirt on celebs and politicians. Their top reporter has written an exposé claiming that he had liaisons with an escort, a young woman prepared to tell the world her salacious tale. But the chief justice is not without allies and his greatest supporter is determined to stop the story in its tracks. Nick Heller is a private spy—an intelligence operative based in Boston, hired by lawyers, politicians, and even foreign governments. A high-powered investigator with a penchant for doing things his own way, he’s called to Washington, DC, to help out in this delicate, potentially explosive situation. Nick has just forty-eight hours to disprove the story about the chief justice. But when the call girl is found murdered, the case takes a dangerous turn, and Nick resolves to find the mastermind behind the conspiracy before anyone else falls victim to the maelstrom of political scandal and ruined reputations predicated upon one long-buried secret.

JOSEPH FINDER is the New York Times bestselling author of twelve previous novels, including The Fixer , Suspicion , Vanished , and Buried Secrets . Finder's international bestseller Killer Instinct won the International Thriller Writers's Thriller Award for Best Novel of 2006. Other bestselling titles include Paranoia and High Crimes , which both became major motion pictures. He lives in Boston.

  • :-(

This is a very boring book. He starts with a good story, then bogs it down with so many looooong drawn-out, unnecessary scenes and illogical twists that it gets too tiresome to go on with. Only for those trapped in the Bangkok airport overnight waiting out a cancellation with no other entertainment.

  • Great book

Good book, sometimes a little too much detail on trivial bits of information, but otherwise a good read. Great storyline.

  • A Classic Thriller

For fans of the genre, Guilty Minds is an excellent read. It has plot twists and just the right amount of action-believable, well-timed and not excessive-driven by the plot. The characters are almost all sympathetic or tragic, except for the dark side villain and his henchmen. While I figured out several of the plot points along the way, that didn't interfere with the enjoyment-the book is a page turner. Perhaps most important, Guilty Minds is timely. It raises issues that should be at the forefront of our civic discussions: privacy, reputation, public expectations, scrutiny of the connected an powerful, what the propensity for gossip does to public discourse, etc. All this within the context of a thriller masterly told. So it's compelling on many levels. I also admire and appreciate the meticulous research. It created a strong verisimilitude and helped give depth to the characters. Though part of the Nick Heller series, it's stands on its own. What the reader needs to know about earlier books is woven seamlessly into the narrative. The only issue I had with the book, unavoidable perhaps given the structure and plot, was that it felt like two stories, what I'll call the action thriller emerging from a detective narrative. The interlacing was skillful, and the two - I can't really call them different genres - I'll call them frameworks resolve at the close, after the action climax. The first half is thought-provoking, the second half a roller coaster. Both are compelling. It's a great read in the genre and stands with the best of them.

  • Unrealistic over the top Apple commercial

If you like unrealistic trashy action movies - this is the book to read. For everybody else I would suggest to look for an alternative..

  • Guilty Minds = Guilty pleasure

GUILTY MINDS is a guilty pleasure to read. I had not heard of Nick Heller or his previous 2 novels. Joseph Finder appeared an acceptable and competent author to my judgmental perspective. I enjoy interesting espionage thrillers with the odd PI mystery thrown in. GUILTY MINDS had a review that fit my criterion and I then chose to read it. I started on a Friday and expected to finish the novel in a pleasant two-week leisurely pace. By Monday morning,I had finished it. I have not read any novel that quickly in the past two years!! This is a return of Nick Heller, a private intelligence officer and not a private investigator.(Interesting semantics) GUILTY MINDS is the newest and the third in the series by Joseph Finder. The plot concerns itself with blackmail and the political power struggles that can take place in Washington D.C. The title, GUILTY MINDS, refers to the people behind the blackmail situations. The case at the heart of this novel is blackmail. Heller is contacted by a prominent Washington attorney and power broker. At first Nick assumes that the attorney is the person who is being blackmailed but the he is representing an acclaimed Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court who is the actual victim. The pacing of the plot, the facts that are discovered and the anticipation entice the reader to stay on task creates a story that is like catnip for a cat.. With the completion of each chapter, the reader is enticed to journey to the final outcome. But then, another situation is created as a result and Heller is drawn deeper into the world of guilty minds. Joseph Finder is a remarkable author who balances descriptions with dialogue masterfully. The characters are developed with rational motivations and their interactions are amazing. Also, Finder provides the background to reveal the ugly impact of internet gossip sites and some of the new tech tools at Heller’s disposal. This is my first time reading about Nick Heller and I cannot wait to read the other two volumes. I recommend this novel to all who enjoy a great private investigator adventure. I read the book in 4 days!!
