The 2022 Edgar Award Winner for Best Juvenile Mystery! What if you had no name, no past, and no home? Ivette. Joanna. And now: Katrina Whatever her name is, it won’t last long. Katrina doesn’t know any of the details about her past, but she does know that she and her parents are part of the Witness Protection Program. Whenever her parents say they have to move on and start over, she takes on a new identity. A new name, a new hair color, a new story. Until their location leaks and her parents disappear. Forced to embark on a dangerous rescue mission, Katrina and her new friend Parker set out to save her parents—and find out the truth about her secret past and the people that want her family dead. But every new discovery reveals that Katrina's entire life has been built around secrets covered up with lies and that her parents were actually the ones keeping the biggest secret of all. Good mystery book
My granddaughter chose this book to write a report on a mystery. She is in 4th grade and enjoyed it. We did explain about witness protection and DNA experimentation so she could understand the book fully. She recommends it.

Great book! Highly recommended
Anyone we likes Sci-fi and mystery this book is great for you! Danger, friendship and secrets. Couldn't be a better combination. It gets scientifically intense closer to the end but other than that is a very intriguing book.

Not believable
While the story is imaginative and the twists and turns interesting (the reasons I gave it 3 stars), there's a fundamental problem: We're to believe that the kids know as much -- actually more -- than any of the adults in the room. And those same adults who are scientists, brilliant strategists, and beefy bodyguards take them into their confidences. Unrealistic. Many mysteries for kids feature genius kids who leave the adults in the dust, but in my opinion this is extreme..The most compelling character by far is the multifaceted "X." And it isn't even his story, although had it been more about him, it would have been a better book.
