知られざる飯能戦争
明治維新前夜、埼玉で実際に戦われた飯能戦争を中心に、名栗川での暮らしから自由民権運動の拡がりまで少年の目を通して描いた作品。今西佑行の小説はどれも綿密な調査をもとに暖かい視線で描かれていて、もっと読まれるべき作家だと思う。

飯能に実在した人物がたくさん登場
今西祐之は、史実に取材を重ねて書き上げる作家だと常々思っています。 この「名栗川少年記 第1部」は、幕末の飯能戦争から明治維新当時を舞台に「飯能に実在した人物」が多数登場しています。個人的には、小山源三郎の生き方が良く分かり資料としても非常に参考になりました。
