Kaseijin Senshi is a full-length science fiction novel by Chiaki Kawamata. To develop Mars, humans send intellectually enhanced kangaroos as simple laborers, but the animals adapt deeply to the Martian environment and become more rooted in the planet than humans themselves. When kangaroos become extinct on Earth, they break from the burden of their past and declare themselves Martians. Set on Mars, the novel explores colonization, the dignity of species, and the boundaries of intelligent life on a large scale.

もっと知られるべき面白さ SF的ガジェットもそんなに古臭く感じない この本が英訳されているかどうかは知らないが映画アバターの元ネタはこれなんじゃないかと思うくらい話がよく似ている

テラフォーミングものの中では佳作
SFマガジンの連載で断片的に読んだこの作品、読みたくなって購入しました。 雑な部分が幾らか気になりますが、火星のテラフォーミングものの中では佳作だと思います。

なぜ人間は戦闘的なのか？
火星先住民の純朴さに比し、地球人類の冷酷さやエゴイズム、戦闘好きなどが非常に哀れである。なんとも切ない物語。

「地球人」とは？
労働力として、食料として、火星へと送り込まれたカンガルー達。だが、人間よりも遙かに火星に適応した彼らは、やがて自らを「火星人」と名乗り人類に矛を向けることとなる。 題材自体は古くからあるロボット物に近いが、そこからさらに人類とは何か、知的生命とは何かを書かんとしている作品。ただ、書こうとする内容に対し、表現力が追いついていないような部分も多い。
