Work Information
It looks at an experience of women that is easily buried in the history of repatriation, through the memories of one life.
My Baby depicts violence against women in former Manchuria immediately after Japan's defeat and the pain that continues after repatriation. Chiyo experiences pregnancy and an abortion, then lives with the cry she heard at that time engraved in her memory. Drawn from the oral account of someone known to the author, the story brings attention to women's memories that have often been difficult to speak of within the history of repatriation.
