江戸時代後期にもこのように生きた女人がいた。
頼山陽の恋人、江馬細香の生涯。 細香は大垣の藩医・江馬蘭斎の娘。推さない頃より画才、文才を発揮する。才ばかりでなく、美貌も備え、父、欄斎の手中の玉であった。 が、大垣にやって来た頼山陽と運命の出合いをする。山陽は結婚を申し入れるが、父ははねつける。断られた山陽は妻を娶る。 山陽に詩の教えを請うために京に上った細香は、山陽と愛し合うようになるが、それは愛人という位置であった。 江戸時代後半、意外にも自由に生きた女の人がいたのだと驚いた。ただ、細香を見る視点が気になった。同じ女性が書けばまた違う視点から、細香の生涯を見ることが出来るだろう。
