2010年に発表された、9編を収めた連続短篇集。テーマはまさにタイトルどおりで、大分の久住高原が舞台だ。母親が亡くなり、故郷のわが家を売ることになった笑子が主人公で、住んでいる東京から愛犬のフジ子を連れて故郷に帰ってきて、荷物をまとめたり、家の購入希望者と会ったり、その間に起こる様々な出来事、人々との付き合い、そんなことを描いた作品である。 文体はですます調で、最初の『ラスベガスの男』は「ある朝、笑子さんは夢を見ていました。」という文で始まる。夢はこの冒頭作だけでなく、何度も出てくる。7番目の『くらやみ歩行』となると、これはもう夢オチになるのは間違いないと途中で気づき、どう締めくくるのかと思いながら読んでいたら、そう来たか、この作品だけは一人称形式になっていることでも異色作。最後の『月、日、星、ホイホイ』って何のことかわからないだろうが、ある鳥の鳴き声である。
