人を選ぶ作品いや人を選ぶ著者
例えるなら魯山人や美味しんぼの海原雄山がキリスト教の牧師に転生して田舎で自給自足をしつつ美食と共に世の中を風評するエッセイ。 ライトノベルの主人公みたいにこれでもかとキャラが盛り込まれている方ですが実在の人物です。 前述した魯山人の作品や美味しんぼが楽しめる方は普通に面白いかと思います。 当時の日本の雰囲気も楽しめますよ。

聖職者の食べ物
1979年に築地書館から出た単行本の文庫化。 著者は林学から牧師に転じたという異色の人物。田園の食べ物について本を何冊も書いている。 本書では、長野の大町と柏原、そして横浜という３ヶ所の教会での体験が語られている。さすがに長野では自然の恵みを享受しているが、横浜に移ってからも意欲的に海や山へ出かけており、楽しそうだ。 前半は食材ごとのエッセイ。ブルーベリー、蜂の子、アシタバ、ナマズなどを取り上げ、日々の生活と合わせて、その収穫・捕獲のようす、調理、味が描かれる。自然を取り込んだ食卓は、実に魅力的だ。 後半は、木崎湖畔での生活を月ごとに記したもの。やや散漫。 全体として、話がとびとびで分かりにくいのが欠点。とはいえ、アウトドア好きの人、食べ物エッセイ好きの人にはたまらない一冊だろう。
