京都の四条木屋町のイタリアンレストランでアルバイトをするわたしは、同僚のイズミちゃんから子供のころ行ったという、広河原の「愛宕さんの火祭」の話を聞き、次の夏、一緒に行くという約束をする。しかしアルバイト先を変えたあと、彼女と連絡がとれなくなってしまう。 眠れないのか、眠りたくないのか、帰りたくないのか、帰れないのか、主人公たち世代の苦しい思いを、京都の風景と、京都に長く生きてきた人たちが優しく包み込み浄化していく。観光では見れない、京都の風景を見れたような小説でした。
