Reviews

  • Sleeping Dog

This is one of the best mysteries I've read in a long time. The characters were great and the story moves right along. Pairing the detective with the precocious girl was inspired. I will admit the plot was somewhat convoluted but reading this was an enjoyable ride.

  • Good for more than a few chuckles!

Well written and a lot of fun to read☺

  • A must read very much enjoyed. All unusual and amusing ...

very enjoyable believable and well written. Quite. A story definitely America. Quirky. But fun and a deep yarn. But I am British and we like. Expansive stories. Characters are well drawn. And come over as so idealistic....

  • A Doggone Good Read

Always on the lookout for something with a difference, I found it in this two-sided mystery that starts with a missing dog. The character of Serendipity is particularly engaging, and ably supported by the weary, ex cop PI. The plot is convoluted but reasonably credible, being explained in the final pages. I will be reading the second novel as soon as possible.

  • Two perspectives are better than one.

It's hard to come up with an original style in crime fiction, that's for sure. Lochte seems to have done it---by combining TWO styles (from two narrators, of course). And they're complimentary and engaging. I really enjoyed the interesting experience of having the same (or closely related) events, incidences, or plot turns described by two separate participants, one a prematurely mature (precocious, if she were younger) young teen and one a hard-boiled, mildly world-weary shamus. Yes, I really enjoyed it and immediately bought another in the series.
