"Watakushitachi no Kenpo" was first published by Yuhikaku in 1955 as a B5-format illustrated book and received the Mainichi Publishing Culture Award. The National Diet Library describes it as a collaboration by Toshiyoshi Miyazawa, Ichitaro Kokubun, and Fumiko Hori that presents the full text of the Constitution of Japan in an accessible form for children, with explanatory guidance. The current Yuhikaku Shinsho edition, "Shinsho Watakushitachi no Kenpo," carries forward that purpose by speaking about the spirit of the constitution through stories, poems, and letters.

美濃部達吉の後継者、憲法学者の宮沢俊義と生活綴方運動で著名な児童文学者、国分一太郎が次のような作業でできた本という。わかりやすく正確なのもなるほどと思った。憲法を学ぶうえで最適の書です。 初版のはしがきから。「まずはじめに国分が憲法の条文をやさしく書きなおし、そのひとつひとつにわかりやすい説明をつけました。それを宮沢が読んで、いろいろなおし、国分にかえしました。それをまた国分が見てなおして、宮沢へもどす…なんべんもくりかえして、ようやくこの本ができました。なによりもたいせつな憲法のことですから、まちがいのないように、そしてわかりやすいようにと、ねんいりな書き方をしたのです」
