貴重
陳湯やその時代を描いた数少ない貴重な作品。 中国の歴史が相当好きな人でないと、この時代をここまで調べて設定できないと思うので、きっと歴史好きな作家さんなんでしょう。 個人的には好きな作品。大衆ウケはしなさそうですが…

烏孫王国の姫だけ架空？
中国前漢の時代の西域が舞台の歴史小説『天山疾風記―西域剣士列伝』。なんか富士見にもったいないくらい本格的です。 巻末の解説によれば、ヒロインの星星以外の名のある登場人物は皆、歴史上に実在していたというではありませんか。 ハチャメチャな人物である主人公陳湯も実在していて、命令書を偽造したなんてのも実際に史書にも掲載されているエピソードだとか。 す、すごい。 ただ残念ながら、よほど東洋史に造詣が深い人は別として、一般の日本人は中国史のことなど大した知りません。せいぜい三国志レベルですから。 いずれの人物も耳馴染みがありません。漢の時代の、それも中国本土ではない西域という舞台も馴染みが薄いはず。 そんな中で、読者がキャラに愛着を持つようにし、古代中国の歴史絵巻に引き込ませるようにするには、多少は読み易さを犠牲にしてでももっとキャラクター描写、生活文化の書き込みがあってほしかったです。 まぁ、何でもアリがウリであるはずのファンタジア大賞がこの作品を佳作に選んだのは、選考委員の良心が生きている証だとは思いますが。 もう少し深く突っ込めば本格歴史小説となり得る作品と思えるので、ちょっともったいなかったでしょうか。
