想いでと共に
新羽先生の短編集を見つけて、愕きと嬉しさで、即１・２共に入手した。 先生が大学生で私は小学生の頃から、家族ぐるみでおつきあいしていた仲なので、自分的にはこの二冊は大発見であった。 特に、受賞作の「進化論の問題」は一度読みたかった短編なので真っ先に読んだ。 最初は、兄の英語の家庭教師としてお会いして、４８歳で亡くなるまで我が家の「希望」のような存在だったように思う。今でも良い思い出と共に、清廉さと暖かさが心に残っている。亡くなる一年程前に兄が誘って３人で九十九島の夜焚きへ出掛けたのを想い出す。告別式のあと、存在しないと云われていた、数日前に発行された長編「鯨のあいに鯱がくる」のサイン本数冊を兄が抱えて帰ってきた。奥様から、「ご家族に」とのことで、それが今でも私の本棚で輝いている。 二冊組で発行していただいた論創社さんに感謝したい。 多くの人に手にしていただきたい、宝石賞受賞作家の二冊です。
