朝日小学生新聞の連載小説。朝日学生新聞社児童文学賞の第1回受賞作品です。小学校生活最後の夏休み、孝太郎は森で出会った汚いおじいさんを家に連れて帰る。しにせの造りしょうゆ屋の経営がうまくゆかず、ぎくしゃくしていた家族の関係は、おじいさんの登場で少しずつ変わっていく……。
京都外国語大学卒業。2001年、娘に語り聞かせたお話をもとにした『夏がくれたおくりもの』で「第4回ちゅうでん児童文学賞優秀賞」受賞。今作品がデビュー作となる。

子どもが読んでいたので、そっと借りて読んでみた。 父親、母親、孝太郎、涼平、それぞれが悩みを抱えているが、家族や友との関わりの中で、悩みを解決してゆく姿が清々しく描かれていて、読後爽やかな気持ちになれた。 親子の絆の大切さ、尊さを再認識できる良書。 子どもとの関係に悩む大人に、是非この本を勧めたい。

大泥棒の石川五右衛門が現代に蘇って、しょうゆ屋の少年の家に居候！？ 親子の絆が感じられて、ラストはうるっときた。 いい本だと思う。

小学生新聞に連載されているのを少し拝読。単行本で読み通すといろいろなこの本の良さが分かる。何度も読みたくなる本。家族のそれぞれの人たちが何を考えどんな心持ちなのかを考えさせる良書。思いやり、気遣い、優しさ、ユーモアの大切さが学べる。とてもいい本でした。
