Depressing

I was disappointed in this novella. I heard it was an award-winning fantasy, but it is a thinly-disguised account of the Khmer Rouge rebellion in Cambodia with a few science-fictional elements pasted on it. While the writing is good, the story is so heartbreaking and depressing that I couldn't finish it.
