Lured by Israeli intelligence into the world of espionage, Charlie, a young actress, is plunged into a deceptive and delicate trap to ensnare an elusive Palestinian terrorist.

John le Carre was born in 1931. His third novel, THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD, secured him a wide reputation which was consolidated by the acclaim for his trilogy TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY, THE HONOURABLE SCHOOLBOY and SMILEY'S PEOPLE. His other novels include THE CONSTANT GARDENER, A MOST WANTED MAN and OUR KIND OF TRAITOR.

レビュー

  • Boring, repetitive, unreal, cynical, inhuman, manipulative, lacking ,any sense of values, arrogant, fake respect, gaming in place of any joy in life. Rubbish in disguise.

All the above. Boring, repetitive, cynical story of manipulation, lacking sense of humanity, fake respect, gaming in place of simple love of life, philosophical and psychological rubbish in disguise.

  • Classic 1970s spy yarn

Le Carré had exceptional insight into 1970s intelligence services. Mossad, wow, what a story.

  • Just Excellent!

Over many years I have read this book three times. As I finish this third reading I am actually considering beginning it still again. There is so much depth to this novel - the characters, the plot, the theme, the politics - everything is so amazing and thought provoking. I must stop writing now so I can start back at Page-1. I miss Charlie. I miss Joseph. I miss Kurtz. I miss them all!

  • Brilliant

As always John le Carre is very professional about the whole plot.his ground level knowledge about the spy business is coming across so clearly and very few spy masters can reach this standard 👍 a very good read 👌

  • Extraordinary, a must read. Perhaps the most powerful of all Le Carre’s novels.

an astonishing portrait of Israel - Palestine and the historical questions which have yet to be resolved. It is hard to fathom that Le Carre wrote this novel in 1982. Apart from the searing, relentlessly escalating tension and the unforgettable characterisations, the feature that took my breath away was the ceaseless deconstruction and reconstruction of identities, not just as a display of postmodern brilliance but as the engine of the storyline. This is one of the most impressive, finely balanced and disturbing novels I have ever read.
