  • 世界設定と倫理的な葛藤を評価する声がある。人物関係や政治的背景をじっくり追う作風のため、派手なアクションよりも制度と良心の衝突を読む作品として受け止められる。

A historical novel based on the world's oldest epic follows the tale of Gilgamesh, the two-thirds-god king of Erech, who invokes the wrath of the gods and befriends a beast that would destroy France. A first novel. Original.

レビュー

  • Awesome!

From the first few pages, I was transported to ancient Erech, involved in the lives of the characters, and hooked on this most ancient of epic stories. Grundy has a way of bringing larger-than-life characters forth in ways that make them immediately important to the reader as people, not merely as archetypes. Whether he is writing about fighting or love-making, he does it with an appreciation of the skills involved that make you pity his enemies and envy his lovers. He has the rare combination of excellent research and creative story-telling ability that marks the best keepers of legend. I recommend this book not just because the Gilgamesh story is culturally important, but because it is a GOOD story, and even better when told by a master.

  • Bel libro ma troppi errori di stamps

Un ottimo romanzo basato sull'epopea mesopotamica, ma purtroppo ci sono troppi errori di stampa.

  • Stephan does it again...

Having slogged through the mire of "Rhinegold", Grundy's 800-page "reimagining" of the great Sigurd-Sigmund-Siegfried cycles, you would think that I knew better than to give him a second chance. Perhaps I figured that maybe he'd simply bitten off more than he could chew and that "Rhinegold" was a flawed but sincere effort. As they say, "Fool me once..." Those of you who are familiar with the Gilgamesh epic know that it runs to about sixty pages in an unannotated edition. Grundy has bloated it (there's no other word) into a 530-page MESS that bears no genuine resemblance to the original. Generic BLOAT, meaningless BLOAT, trivial BLOAT, this book is nothing more than a 530-page gas attack. If Grundy has read ANYTHING about the ancient Mesopotamian empires, there's no evidence of it here. Thank you again, Amazon, for your generous return policy.
