• Excellent P.I debut novel

  This book should appeal to fans of Robert Crais it introduces San Francisco based P.I. Cape Weathers & his lethal triad trained assistant Sally. The story starts with a ship running into the shore with the crew dead & a group of illegal immigrants as cargo. The story moves between the present & Sally's past which is very much tied into the ship. Some nice touches , nice interplay between Cape & the rest of the cast.

  Very interesting look into Chinese traditions and their position in the San Francisco culture. As well, the characters are very well drawn. Our hero, Cape Weathers, has a sharp tongue that gets him in trouble but makes him lovable to the reader. His "partner" is a fascinating combination of lovable and fearsome that gives a bow to the new trend of female super-heroes who can do anything. His mother figure, the reporter he used to work with, has Cape, himself, in some awe. The plotting is fast paced and well thought out, interesting, and a real mystery right up until the end. Everyone wore at least 2 faces and we were privy to them all - really fascinating plotting.

• A Great San Francisco Thriller

  This is the first in the very entertaining Cape Weathers series. Cape is a detective in San Francisco and you could call the city one of the main characters as Tim Maleeny provides colorful and detailed descriptions of the City by the Bay, making the story all the more engrossing. As for the story, Cape is thrust deep into the Chinese underworld of San Francisco as he tries to find his missing Sally, rumored to be a highly trained assassin. The action is intense and the twists are many. Cape is likable and just sarcastic enough to bring some humor to some dark moments. I thoroughly enjoy this series and am looking forward to reading all the Cape novels.

• Surprisingly good.

  Some mysteries are unpleasant to read, however well you may be caught up in the plot. This one was a pleasure to read all the way through. The characters are well-developed. I particularly liked the relationship between Cape Weathers and his close friend the female ninja, and also his relationship with the police. The plot was intricate but not difficult to keep straight, and its interweaving with the powers in Chinatown was well done. I highly recommend the book.
