よく練れた筋書、速度の速い展開、読み易く最後の最後（５００頁）までハラハラ ドキドキ。 NY州のとある清閑な郊外住宅地。Cutter 家の人々が朝目を覚ましてみると、親 しくしている隣に住むLangley 家の家族全員（3名）が銃で撃たれ殺害されていた。 聞き込み捜査が始まり、手掛かりは謎を生み、深め、関わる人物其々の暗部や 恥部が抉り出され、またそれらが現実社会でありえるが故に真実味を帯びている。 全編を通して主人公Bill Cutter （42歳、現職 grass cutter、家族3名）の一人称 形式で書かれていて、軸がぶれない。 米国での生活体験がなくては理解しにくい 場面が散見されても、逆にそれが驚きと新鮮さで興味深い内容となっている。 今まで読んだLinwood Barclay の作品の中でもこのthriller は特にお薦めです。

This story starts out with the murder of a man and wife and their son. Jim and Ellen Cutter who live next door are horrified. And their teenage son Derek has even more reason to be horrified. He was hiding in the neighbor’s house and heard the execution. Having escaped the carnage, he tells no one. This is not only an amazing puzzle mystery (I dare anyone to guess the murderer). It’ s also a fascinating tangle of relationships. The plot is rife with infidelity, dishonesty, and other misbehaviors. There are tense scenes of violence — and an action-packed denouement. Astonishing secrets get revealed. Bad people get their comeuppance. This book was first published in 2009, but it features a flamboyant and cheerfully irresponsible politician who foreshadows the flamboyant personality and erratic behavior of a certain contemporary politician. This is kind of fun. Anyway, Linwood Barclay is a fabulous writer of thrillers. Too Close to Home has a wonderfully complex plot, nice touches of humor, and all the excitement any reader could want.

Linwood Barclay-Too Close To Home einfach super
Linwood Barclay versteht es einfach, den Leser zu fesseln und ihn an sein Buch zu binden. Ich kenne keinen anderen Autor, dem es so gelingt wie ihm, von der ersten Seite weg spannend zu schreiben. Ich las das Buch zum ersten Mal auf Englisch und muss sagen, dass der Wortwitz kaum ins Deutsche übertragbar ist. Mir gefällt sein Durchbruch ,,Ohne ein Wort'' zwar besser, jedoch sind die ganzen falschen Vermutungen die man während dem Lesen entwickelt auch recht interessant. Kann es nur jedem weiterempfehlen ;)

Un très bon polar
J'ai beaucoup aimé cette histoire fort bien construite. Elle se déroule dans une petite ville de province dans le nord des Etats-Unis, où théoriquement, rien ne devrait se passer. Le narrateur est un homme qui après plusieurs petits boulots dont celui de chauffeur du maire, un personnage peu recommandable, a trouvé son bonheur en devenant jardinier. Sa femme travaille en étroite collaboration avec le directeur de l'université de la ville, elle organise un festival littéraire. Leur fils adolescent, Dereck, aide son père quand il est en vacances. Une vie tranquille qui va être bouleversée par le meurtre brutal et apparemment gratuit de leurs voisins, un autre couple sans histoire et leur fils, le meilleur ami de Dereck. Et si le ou les meurtriers s'étaient trompés de maison? Jusqu'où peut aller un homme dont le succès littéraire est basé sur un vol de manuscrit pour protéger sa réputation et sa gloire mal acquise? Ces questions, parmi bien d'autres, nous tiendront en haleine jusqu'à la dernière page de ce roman, fort bien raconté et très agréable à lire.
