レビュー

  • A very intriguing and thoughtful book

The story of this novel wasn't all that complicated, but what struck me was the tone, which was very thoughtful and reminiscent. I liked the world-building to describe the 21st Century, and the way a lot of it was recounted as being incidental ... which is how we experience history in our lives. The main character is a classical musician, and I'm not sure how that world works, but I found it odd that Paris would be described as such a cultural centre during one of the decades of the 21st Century - it may be for classical musicians, I don't know. I nevertheless felt I was visiting a future time during different phases of the character's life.

  • slowly and sweetly addictive

I would not consider it a science fiction book (although it is), nor a story that twist you around in the standard way. It is a beautiful story beautifully written about a beautiful person who thinks back at her life and pull some strings of it to face death. It is a slow paced novel and, that way, comes so close and deep. It is also a story to read peacefully and with time to ponder it...

  • How great for her that she can continue this ceaseless drivel ...

I have never failed to finish a book that I purchased but I might make an exception with this book. I am about 50 pages in and have read nothing but a young adolescent girl's continuing inner monologue about how she loves her older brother and hates his girlfriend. I rechecked the reviews to learn that she will continue this conversation endlessly with a manlike being that washed up on the shore. How great for her that she can continue this ceaseless drivel with a man who cannot get up and walk away. I thought this was supposed to be science fiction.
