Legacy
Ikemiyagusuku Shuei was an Okinawa-based journalist and editor known for recording wartime experiences and Okinawan society. He won the Japan Essayists' Club Prize in 1971. In 2008 Ryukyu Shimpo established the "Ikemiyagusuku Shuei Memorial Prize" in his name to honor individuals and groups that promote Okinawan issues.
Trivia
- There are variant readings of his surname: both "Ikemiyagusuku" and the alternative reading have been recorded.
- Ryukyu Shimpo established the "Ikemiyagusuku Shuei Memorial Prize" in 2008 to mark its 115th anniversary.
