Inukai made contributions as an English literature scholar and translator, and published works in children's literature and ancient-Japanese history. As Professor Emeritus of Hosei University he contributed to education and research, engaged in study at Sichuan University in China, and after retirement founded the China Culture Research Institute. He also mentored figures such as Mizuhito Kanehara and Kanko Akagi.
