Legacy

A historian who made major contributions to modern Japanese history, particularly military and education history. In addition to academic works he published books for general readership and fiction; his novel 'Kogarashi no Toki' won the Osaragi Jirō Prize in 1985. As Professor Emeritus of Ibaraki University he supervised many scholars.

  • Graduated from Kumamoto Army Juvenile School in 1944 and later attended army officer schools but was demobilized at the end of the war.
