A tanka collection gathering poems written against the backdrop of postwar life, Communist Party activity, and everyday living. It addresses labor, women's perspectives, ageing, and daily struggles with concise, candid expression.
Born Ishizuka Rui in Fukuoka, Sumi Yasaka engaged in Communist Party activities after moving to Tokyo while composing tanka. Her work gained recognition from the 1970s onward; she won the Watanabe Junzo Prize in 1979 and the Takiji & Yuriko Prize in 1986, gaining literary recognition late in life.
