Description

Established in 1969 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Saitama Shimbun's founding, this is an annual open call literary award. Solicits novels (within 50 sheets of 400-character manuscript paper), 3 poems, 20 tanka, and 20 haiku nationwide. Out-of-prefecture applicants must use Saitama-related themes such as local features, natural environment, people, history, etc. From the 25th edition in 1994, sponsored by Asahi Bank (now Saitama Resona Bank), denoted as "Saitama Resona Bank of the Colorful Country ○○th Saitama Literary Award". Winning works are published in Saitama Shimbun around October/November each year.
