The thirty poems of "White Rain" and the twenty-one poems of "Highland Sketch" are tanka sequences by Ken Kasugai. They belong to the period that led to his collection White Rain, where familiar people and everyday scenes are joined by a quiet awareness of death and illness.

A tanka sequence that turns immediate reality into lucid lyricism and opens a quiet world of time and space.
