Description
A public call newcomer literary award established in 1984 through the efforts of Atsutaka Hiraoka, a professor in the Department of Literary Arts at Waseda University. From 1984 to 2000, it featured four categories: novels, criticism, poetry, and tanka. From 2001 to 2004, it was held annually with a two-category system of novels and criticism. It was suspended from 2005 to 2007 due to the magazine's publication hiatus, and resumed irregularly with the relaunch of Waseda Bungaku in 2008, established as a single novel category system with one judge.
