The Yoshikawa Eiji Literary Newcomer Award is a non-open literary newcomer prize established in 1980, sponsored by the Yoshikawa Eiji Foundation for Culture and backed by Kodansha.

Description

Outstanding novels published between January 1 and December 31 each year are eligible. Hundreds of cultural figures submit nominations, and a selection committee determines the recipient by consensus. The selection committee meeting and announcement take place in early March. The prize consists of a commemorative plaque and prize money of one million yen.
