Reviews

  • An outstanding book for people interested in telecommunications history

Clarke isn't just a Science-Fiction author; during the war he was a radar technician defending England from Nazi bombing runs. This technical frame of mind extends to his non-fiction volume on telecommunications from the earliest project to string telegraph cable across the Atlantic (similar in scope to the moon-shot effort a century later) right up through the invention of radio. coaxial cable, the telephone, and the communications satellite (an effort in which Clark himself had an indirect hand). Clarke also speculates about a future in which the world will be connected by computer networks and people will carry portable wireless phones and video cameras around with them - to the great chagrin of tyrants everywhere.

The modern world is all about information. It seems magical. This story pulls aside the curtain on the magicians with a well presented story bringing the rich history to life.

  • Good Tech Read

This is a story of how the world came to be one through communication. Very informative and pleasing for those tech junkies and enthusiasts alike.
