Work Information

The final volume of a science-fiction trilogy about a planet whose civilizations and ecosystems turn toward a long winter.

Following Helliconia Spring and Helliconia Summer, the novel foregrounds planetary time and social transformation more than individual adventure. It is valued for intricate worldbuilding and ideas, while its density asks sustained attention from readers.

I finally read this, the third book of the trilogy - after reading and loving the first two many years ago. I re-read them before I started this one so I have been immersed in Helliconia for a few weeks now. I am sorry to have finished - Brian Aldiss has a fantastic imagination, combined with the detailed knowledge that make his worlds so real. A wonderful read!

  • Five Stars

    great book

  • Excellent

The book was just as I required and I was very pleased with the order

  • Great Book, but it took a while

I have all three books, and just finished this one. It took a while to get into, (I was not used to his style, but eventually got there. Sometimes it was inclined toward over description or replication, but the world he created was well documented and described, and I was able to think what the end result might be. This is a classic series, and is in a unique setting I do not think has been used before in this scenerio. For this period in SCI FI history, a must read by a classic author.

  • Final Instalment in a masterpiece

Completed the epic perfectly, Aldiss at his best.
