もはや末期的と思われるテレビの刑事犯罪ものの、視聴者の誤誘導を狙ったクローズアップと、アンフェアな手がかりの秘匿といった安直な手は一切使わない堂々たるミステリー。筋と犯人が分かっていても何度でも読みたくなる。文章で読ませる本格推理小説の見本である。
