This novel alternates between "A Bouquet for Workers in ((())) ," in which a young man named So Yokota records the people working in a cafeteria, and "A Place Where Film Subtitles Are Easy to See," narrated by Etsuko Arihara. Through the overlapping acts of recording and sketching, translation and interpretation, it reconsiders labor, language, and relations with others.

労働者と芸術家の弁証法！

①労働者は誰もしたくないことを賃金貰って行う仕事をする者であり、そうではない仕事を行う者を芸術家という。二人の書簡は労働者と芸術家の弁証法である。 ②両者に共通していることは、必要としている人がいることだ。需要がある限り、仕事は成立する。AIとロボットが代用し、労働者は減少するが、なくなることはない。 ③労働に貴賤はあると思われるが、やらねばならないことは同じだ。レジ打ちも、映画の字幕作成も、それぞれ必要な仕事なのだ。結論はどちらの仕事も、貴賤が付けられない。学ぶことご多い哲学小説としてお勧めだ。
誠実な小説

形式は、実験的な思想小説のように見える。だけど、読んでみれば案外読者を意識した親切な文章。派遣の配膳人に登録して、レストランの洗い場を巡りながら、プロフェッショナルなこだわりと技術を持って皿洗いをする男や、外の世界と対峙するためにあらかじめ会話や出来事を想定して何パターンもの脚本を作る女など、何だか気になる魅力的な登場人物が出てくる。変わった小説を作ってやったぜ、みたいな厭らしさはなく、とても誠実に、小説だった。
