マクロイの遺作
ヘレン・マクロイは本格派でデビューしましたが その後、本国でも本格物は売れなくなったこと 結婚相手（ブレット・ハリデー）の影響で サスペンス物に転向していました それはそれで傑作も生み出しているのですが 戦後２度ほど本格物に回帰しようとしていて その２回目がこの作品です トリックは当時は斬新だったんだろうけど 今では陳腐になってしまっている 人の不安をかき立てる中傷の手紙と それを取り巻く心理の動きはさすがマクロイですが それ以外の書き込みは非常に浅いのが残念です
