50年代の小説とは思えん。
「セッション（Whiplash）」という映画があり、主人公のジャズドラマーの卵は、自身の父とたまに会う際、ミッドナイトシネマで上映されている本作の映画化を見に行く。以降監督は、重ねる作品の折々に血と暴力を巧妙にまぶし、このデビュー作以降もこうなる（こうしたい）ダブルミーニングでこの描写を込めたと思われる。鋭角的な暴力描写と死の突き放し具合。
