私は思い出ごと壊されるような気がして、懐かしい街を再訪することを躊躇してしまう。 主人公が北京を再訪したのは敗戦後41年ということなので1986年か。 鄧小平による改革開放路線で建設ラッシュの北京に、彼の知る北京の面影は無い。 変わってしまった街の中で、昔の街の記憶が、そこで関わりを持った人びととの思い出とともに蘇ってくる。 自らが知る街は、もはや記憶の中にか存在しない。時間の流れは残酷になるときがある。 3年後の1989年には天安門事件、2008年の北京オリンピック・・・、 そうしたことを経て、さらに北京は街も人の心も変わってしまったのだろう。 しかしどんな時代であれ、誰にでも街の佇まいは、人びととの思い出とともに記憶されていく。
