いつも通りの
在米中国人の若い女性と、いろいろあって人生をはずれたアメリカ人中年（？）男性という異色の探偵コンビのこのシリーズ。その抑制されたトーンが好きで、新刊が出れば必ず買う、数少ないシリーズの中の１つです。２人の視点が巻ごとに交互に入れ替わるという趣向も面白い。（個人的には、ビルの方の巻が好きですが。） この巻では、舞台が香港ということで、リディアが少々はしゃいでいる感があるのがかわいい。ビルはいつもと勝手が違って、窮屈そうです。ストーリーはいつもの通り、手堅く失望はしない、というところです。年齢的にそろそろ文庫本を読むのが辛くなってきましたが、まあこのシリーズは字の小ささも気にならず読めますね。でも、できればもう少し大きな活字にしてくださると有り難い。 ところで、ちっとも進展しない主役２人の関係が気になるこのシリーズですが、厳格な母とも離れ、マイノリティを嫌でも意識せざるを得ないアメリカを離れ、リディアは今回、やや大胆な行動に出ます。ところが……。もちろんラブストーリーは単なる味付けに過ぎないとしても、こんなにじれったい２人に、本国の読者達は不満ではないのでしょうか。まあ、以後に期待、というところですか。でも、障害は多そうだなあ。
