Knockout no sono ato de is a 1995 children's novel by Shinichi Kishimoto, illustrated by Ryo Tsutsui and published by Rironsha in its Dowa Paradise series. As exam pressure surrounding his sister tightens the mood at home, easygoing Takamasa feels isolated at school and becomes drawn to the ways an older neighborhood boy and a boy who no longer attends school live.

子どもの気持ちはわかったつもりでも・・・
何をするにもやる気のない小学生が、登校拒否の中学生などと出会いを通じて揺れる心の内の、親にも先生にも言えない本音の部分が淡々と綴られています。教育委員会で禁止令が出そうな一冊ですが、道徳を押しつけるような内容よりも、こういう物語のほうが、子どもは共感できるところがあるでしょうね、きっと。受験生を抱える家庭のピリピリムードもうまく描かれています。今どきの子どもの少年への『通過儀礼』を書いた作品としては十分合格点ではないでしょうか。続編を書いてもらいたいものです。
