Tsugumi is an early short story by Tomiko Inui, first published in the third issue of the coterie magazine Mugi in December 1953 and confirmed as the 1954 Japan Children's Literature Association Newcomer Award winner. NDL OPAC did not confirm an ISBN-bearing standalone book under the title alone, but Rironsha's Fore Bunko volume Kawa to Norio is described as including the award-winning Tsugumi and confirms ISBN 9784652070413. Kodansha's electronic edition information for Isamashii Ari no Ponsu also confirms that Tsugumi is included there.

あのころの思いを忘れたくない
かつて国語の教科書で知った「川とノリオ」。大切な人を失うことに対する漠然とした不安と、戦争に対する恐れが、子ども時代の読後感です。様々なことを知り、大人になって家庭も持った今、改めて読み直してみると、当時感じた不安の正体がわかりました。子どもの頃感じた不安は、ノリオの不安。今感じているのは、ノリオの母あるいは祖父の不安。残される者と失われていく者双方の悲しみが根底に流れ、そこに戦争が暗い影を投げかけています。そして、それでも変わらず流れていく川。悲しみの中に、生きていく力を与えてくれる作品だと思います。
