童話風SF
これでもかというくらいのスケールのでかさと、とぼけたキャラが魅力。 続編 ではレストとハーウィンが200億の難民という難問にぶち当たるんだけど、 子どもの想像力とそれを実現する巨大な力が直に結びついて解決に至る辺りが楽しい。 また基本的にはコメディなのに、（普通はこういう作風ならぼかすと思うんだけど） 描写の上ではわりとあっけらかんと人死にを描いている辺りがいいスパイスになっていた。

『魔魚戦記』です。 壮大な宇宙の壮大なイキモノを描いた壮大なSFです。 ちょっと童話的な文体で描いているのもまた、壮大さの表現をサポートしています。 それと対比して人間の営みの矮小さを描いています。愛憎陰謀いろいろ渦巻いているのですが、壮大なものと比較するとそのあまりの小ささに笑えます。 人間が小せぇ、とは言いましたが、一人だけ例外が。 ヒロインのレスタンティです。 彼女はちびなのですが、壮大な宇宙に対して真っ向から向き合います。でも天然なのでちょっとズレているかも。 天然レスタンティの内包している壮大さこそが、この作品の一番の見どころ、かな。
