レビュー要約

  • テキサス南部の風土を細部まで生かした語り口と、短く切れ味のある会話が評価されている。定番的な犯罪小説の要素を用いながらも、主人公の一人称の声が鮮やかなデビュー作として受け止められた。

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series Everything in Texas is bigger . . . even murder. Meet Tres Navarre—tequila drinker, Tai Chi master, and unlicensed P.I., with a penchant for Texas-size trouble. Jackson “Tres” Navarre and his enchilada-eating cat, Robert Johnson, pull into San Antonio and find nothing waiting but trouble. Ten years ago Navarre left town and the memory of his father’s murder behind him. Now he’s back, looking for answers. Yet the more Tres digs, trying to put his suspicions to rest, the fresher the decade-old crime looks: Mafia connections, construction site payoffs, and slick politicians’ games all conspire to ruin his homecoming. It’s obvious Tres has stirred up a hornet’s nest of trouble. He gets attacked, shot at, run over by a big blue Thunderbird—and his old girlfriend, the one he wants back, is missing. Tres has to rescue the woman, nail his father’s murderer, and get the hell out of Dodge before mob-style Texas justice catches up to him. The chances of staying alive looked better for the defenders of the Alamo. “Riordan writes so well about the people and topography of his Texas hometown that he quickly marks the territory as his own.”— Chicago Tribune Don’t miss any of these hotter-than-Texas-chili Tres Navarre novels: BIG RED TEQUILA • THE WIDOWER’S TWO-STEP • THE LAST KING OF TEXAS • THE DEVIL WENT DOWN TO AUSTIN • SOUTHTOWN • MISSION ROAD • REBEL ISLAND

    Alles Gut. Immer wieder gerne.

  • Rick Riordan Has Been Writing Great Books for Years

I love a good mystery and this is a great one. Years before being kept up by reading about Percy Jackson’s adventures I could have been reading Big Red Tequila. This mystery masterpiece features Tre Navarre, an eccentric, eclectic character determined to solve the 10 year old murder of his father. The best mysteries involve the reader reader with vivid characters or provide a fascinating puzzle. This book does both.

  • P.I. Tres Navarre introduced to readers

This is author Rick Riordan's first novel. Riordan is a native of San Antonio and this is a Texas tale involving aspiring P.I. Tres Navarre, who returns home to San Antonio after 10 years in San Francisco. Navarre left town after his father, a sheriff, was murdered. When Navarre returns, he hooks up with his old high school sweetheart Lillian, and wants to investigate the death of his father. Lillian soon disappears and Navarre starts digging into her disappearance, while also trying to make sense of his father's murder. Riordan has created some interesting characters in this debut novel. Navarre has a Ph.D. in medieval literature, practices Tai Chi, knows his way around Texas and has an enchilada-eating cat, Robert Johnson. Navarre's brother, Garrett, is a die-hard hippie, marijuana smoker, a Jimmy Buffett fan who is confided to a wheelchair. He lost both legs years ago trying to hop a train. Riordan also incorporates an up-close look at San Antonio along with the people who live there. I get the feeling Riordan was trying too hard in his first novel, which did win multiple awards. There are too many characters, too much happening and the pace lags in places. I think the novel would have been better if it was shortened by 50 or so pages. The story and the characters, however, are interesting. According to some critics, Riordan's Tres Navarre series improves after his debut novel. This book and the rest of the Tres Navarre series are worthy of a reader's time.
