| 2007 | MF Bunko J Rookie Award (3rd) | Astronot! | — | Media Factory / MF Bunko J | 優秀賞 |
Set on Earth in the far future where magic and science are fused, the story follows Noto, a boy who runs a clipper by day and a tavern by night, as he travels to the Moon to rescue his childhood friend Renvia—who was accidentally sent there from the future—and later ventures into space with companions to stop a giant meteor threatening Earth. A light novel mixing fantasy, SF and adventure elements.
Astronot! won the Excellence Award at the 3rd MF Bunko J Rookie Awards and was praised for its brisk storytelling and classic adventure narrative. It was well received among light novel readers and stands as the author's notable debut work.
After reading it I felt like "I just saw something really nice." On re-reading, there are many explanatory parts and some imbalances, but it's not the usual "battle this" or "cute-girl that" kind of story, so very nice. Still, there are cute girls so readers will smile. It gives a somewhat pastoral impression, though it's not all peaceful—it's the overall atmosphere. Cliché, but that's what makes it good!
