A work in which a large stone is wrapped in a bag-like sheet of Japanese paper (washi). The contrast between the stone's solidity and the paper's thin membrane exposes materiality and perception.

Legacy

As a central member of the Mono-ha movement from the late 1960s to the 1970s, he is internationally recognized for sculptures and installations that foreground the materiality of matter. As an educator at Kyoto City University of Arts and Takarazuka University, he has also influenced younger generations and left an important mark on contemporary Japanese art history.
