Midorii Seki begins when a frequently absent second-year high-school student, the unnamed narrator, reunites with Haru, a former teammate from youth baseball. Time spent with Haru and her friends gives the isolated narrator a sense of belonging while also bringing him into contact with a precarious reality.

Reuniting with Haru draws the isolated narrator into time with companions and begins to set his stalled world in motion.
