1949年、北海道生まれ。国立函館工業専門学校卒。建設会社勤務を経てルポライターとなり、書籍、雑誌などの企画・執筆に活躍。いくつかのルポルタージュ作品を上梓の後、1993年『そらから恐竜がおちてきた』（講談社）で作家デビュー。その他の小説作品に『ついてくるなよ、お化けのベー』（理論社）、『良寛・蓮の恋』（木耳社）などがある。 【画家紹介】 1949年、群馬県生まれ。1964年から木彫りの創作をはじめ、木彫り人形、木版画の工房「でくの房」を主宰。1983年、『ばあちゃんのえんがわ』で講談社絵本新人賞を受賞、同年、絵本第1作として出版される。その他の作品に『やまのえき』『おじいちゃんのまち』『たいのしま』（講談社）などがある。
