運転士

Untenshi is Tomomi Fujiwara's Akutagawa Prize-winning work. The Kodansha hardcover appeared in 1992 and also includes “O o Ute.” A Kodansha Bunko edition and an ebook edition are available.

日常の中の幻想
地下鉄の「運転士」さんを取巻く妖しくもリアリティーのある作品世界には、すっかり引き込まれてしまいました。ＳＦでもミステリーでもホラーでもないんだけれど、思わず文章から目を離してしまいたくなるような怖さがたまりません。共に収録されている「王を撃て」の方は、非現実的な作品世界を持ちながら圧倒的なリアリティーで迫ってきて、こちらこちらで圧巻です。

芥川賞受賞作を、20年ぶりに読み返してみる 規則正しい反復が続く毎日というものは果たして幸せな毎日なのであろうか ドライバーと呼ばれる人々はたくさんいる その中で、定められたレールを走る地下鉄の運転士 このテーマを語るにおいて最もふさわしい存在なのかもしれない 生きる意味を考えさせられた 安部公房の世界観との類似を語る人も居るようだが、 それも判る気がする筆致である

機械のように生活する主人公をとおして、現代を描いている。秀作。よく調査もされている。どちらかというと、表題作より、収録の「王を撃て」の方が、インパクトが強かった。
