戦国ものの良質な短編集
新宮党粛清事件を回想する「尼子悲話」をはじめ、四つの短編が収録されていますが、どれも読み応えがあります。 「尼子悲話」は新宮党事件を中心とした尼子氏の斜陽を家臣の立場から回想する主人公の本田豊前守の心理描写が丁寧で、 悲哀がよく伝わってきます。これがデビュー作というのは凄い。 鳥居元忠の伏見城篭城が舞台の、表題作でもある「闇の松明」は、美談として世間に知られる元忠の玉砕について、 その影の部分を非常に考えさせられる内容です。 残る二編も完成度は高く、「悲刃」「闇に奔る」ともに、戦国時代の大事件の裏側を描写しており、なかなか新鮮な読み応えです。
